Description
Bronchoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the lungs and airways. During the procedure, a bronchoscope is inserted through the windpipe to visually inspect the lungs. It can also be used to collect tissue samples for further analysis.
Learning Outcomes
- Diagnose lung diseases or other conditions such as excessive coughing, coughing up blood, or shortness of breath.
- Follow up on abnormal findings from X-rays or CT scans, particularly potential signs of cancer.
- Assess and address blockages or narrowed areas in the airways.
- Identify causes of infection or inflammation in the lungs.
- Collect samples of mucus or tissue for laboratory analysis.
- Place stents to maintain open airways.
